Drapery Reveal

Create a reveal from an OBJ model

OBJ is a practical geometry exchange format, but the current Drapery Reveal workflow does not load a companion MTL file with the selected model.

Treat OBJ as geometry-first

Confirm that the mesh contains the complete visible form and useful surface normals. Do not rely on a neighboring .mtl file or external texture folder being collected by the one-file picker.

Inspect the imported mesh

Check orientation, connected parts, face direction, and the overall silhouette after import. The editor centers and normalizes the model for its scene, so source units are not preserved as an absolute presentation scale.

Style the model in the scene

Use the editor’s presentation material and lighting controls to create a readable result. Review highlights and shadows from the intended camera angle before draping the cloth.

Build a clean pull path

OBJ models may include narrow or disconnected parts that complicate cloth contact. Choose coverage and pull direction based on the visible silhouette, then preview the complete simulation before recording.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Will Drapery Reveal load my MTL file?

No. The current OBJ workflow does not load an accompanying MTL file, so original materials and external textures should not be assumed.

Should I convert OBJ to GLB?

Convert to a self-contained GLB when preserving embedded materials and textures is important to the final presentation.
