Why a cloth pull creates a strong reveal

A static product render shows an object immediately. A cloth pull creates a short visual story: the covered shape establishes curiosity, the moving fabric directs attention, and the revealed object becomes the payoff. That simple sequence can make an existing 3D model feel ready for a launch post, product page, presentation, or campaign teaser.

The cloth should support that story rather than compete with it. Too much movement can hide important details or delay the reveal. Too little movement can feel like a transition pasted over a still image. Aim for enough physical behavior to make the cover feel tangible, followed by a decisive exit and a final frame with room to study the product.

Prepare a model that is ready to be seen

Start with the cleanest model available and inspect it from the angle you plan to record. Look for missing faces, floating parts, reversed surfaces, rough texture seams, and small details that disappear at phone size. Drapery Reveal accepts GLB, GLTF, OBJ, FBX, STL, and 3MF, but those formats do not carry the same information.

GLB is usually the safest option because it can package geometry, materials, and textures in one file. Use a self-contained GLTF when possible. OBJ imports geometry without an accompanying MTL workflow in the editor, STL is geometry-only and receives a general material, and external FBX textures are not guaranteed to arrive. Treat material setup as part of the scene when the source file does not preserve it.

The editor centers the model and normalizes its longest dimension for the scene, so the source file's absolute real-world scale is not preserved. Even so, clean orientation and connected geometry matter. Thin handles, open cavities, cords, and sharp projections give the cloth more places to catch and may require extra testing.

  • Choose a clear hero angle before tuning the fabric.
  • Remove stray geometry and confirm the silhouette reads at the final output size.
  • Prefer a self-contained GLB when materials and textures matter.
  • Leave enough visual space above and beside the model for the pull direction.

Build the scene before tuning the fabric

Set the camera, surface, and lighting first. These choices determine whether the final shot feels minimal, playful, premium, or technical. A three-quarter camera angle often gives the fabric visible depth while showing more than one product face. A centered front view can be cleaner for symmetrical products and formal announcements.

Create separation between the product, cloth, and background. A dark drape can disappear against a dark environment, while a glossy product can pick up reflections that obscure its form. Adjust the main light and shadow direction until edges and materials read clearly. Global illumination can soften the relationship between the object, cloth, and surface, but it should not flatten the hero shape.

Watch the covered starting frame as closely as the ending. The silhouette should suggest that something is underneath without exposing so much that the reveal loses its purpose.

Tune pull direction, speed, and cloth detail

Choose the pull direction based on the product's proportions and the feature that should appear first. A diagonal pull reveals a silhouette in stages and often feels energetic. An upward pull can suit a tall object, while a sideways pull can clear a wide product more naturally. There is no single correct direction; the best path is the one that clears the hero area cleanly.

Use pull speed and distance to control pacing. A short social clip needs visible progress early, while a slower campaign shot can allow folds and highlights to develop. The editor provides recording durations of 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10 seconds, so match the motion to the available window and leave time for the fully revealed product to register.

Cloth segments and collider resolution can improve detail around irregular shapes, but higher settings require more processing. Start with a stable preview, then raise detail only when the final framing reveals a problem. A small mobile composition may not benefit from simulation detail that is invisible after export.

Catch intersections before recording

Preview the full move and watch the moments when the cloth first contacts the model, passes its widest point, and settles outside the hero area. A snag can be caused by pull direction, cloth size, collider detail, or a narrow feature in the model. Change one variable at a time so you can tell which adjustment actually improves the result.

If fabric passes through the model, try a more forgiving pull path or higher collider resolution. If it bunches in front of a logo or product base, change the pull height, distance, or starting coverage. Not every complex shape needs maximum physics detail; sometimes a slightly different camera or motion path produces the cleaner result.

The final resting fabric matters. Keep it from creating a visual pile that competes with the object, blocks the base, or crowds text-safe space reserved for later campaign copy.

Record for the destination

These share variants crop and resize the recorded result, so keep the product inside a safe central area if one recording must support several placements.

Recording requires an account. MP4 export is available on supported current browsers; browser media capabilities vary, so review the downloaded file before publishing. Check it at its likely viewing size, especially on a phone, and confirm that the first second has movement, the reveal moment is readable, and the final frame holds long enough.

When a launch needs several placements, make purposeful versions rather than assuming one crop will fit every channel. A close vertical shot and a wider landscape shot can share the same model, lighting, and fabric palette while giving each placement a composition designed for it.

Turn the reveal into a repeatable system

A useful cloth reveal is more than a one-off effect. Save the visual decisions that make the product line recognizable: camera height, light direction, cloth palette, surface treatment, pull language, and final hold. Reusing that system can make several launches feel related without making every video identical.

Keep the workflow focused: upload the model, set the scene, drape, preview the pull, and record only after the motion clears the product. The product should remain accurate and recognizable. Use the cloth to create an entrance, then let the object own the ending.
